Plain-English summary
- We do not collect personal data. No account, no email, no tracking of you across sites.
- All calculator inputs run in your browser. They are not sent to any server.
- We display ads from Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve those ads and may show you personalized ads based on prior browsing. You can turn that off in Google Ads Settings.
- You can also use your browser's privacy mode or block third-party cookies entirely.
1. Information we collect
Trailhead Lab does not require an account and does not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or precise location data. We do not store the values you enter into calculators. All computation is performed locally in JavaScript on your device; no input field submits to a backend.
Like most websites, our hosting provider (the company whose servers deliver these HTML files to your browser) may log standard request metadata: IP address, user agent, referrer, and timestamp. These logs are used for security and abuse prevention and are retained for a short rolling window. We do not sell or share these logs.
2. Cookies and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of certain third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ad and Content Network privacy policy.
3. Third-party advertising cookies
Some ads on this site are served by third parties, including Google. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites to provide advertisements about goods and services that may interest you. Information about how you can opt out of these companies' use of cookies for personalized advertising is described above.
4. Children's privacy
This site is intended for adult outdoor enthusiasts. We do not knowingly direct advertising to children under 13, in compliance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent rules.
5. Data retention
We retain server logs for up to 30 days. We retain no user-submitted calculator input — there is no database where it would live. If you email us, we retain the message for as long as it is useful to answer your question, then delete it.
6. Your choices
- Use your browser's privacy/incognito mode to prevent most cookies from persisting.
- Block third-party cookies entirely in your browser settings; this will make many ads non-personalized.
- Opt out of personalized Google ads at adssettings.google.com.
- Opt out of many third-party ad cookies at www.aboutads.info.
7. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after a change indicates acceptance of the new policy.
